TMMK Earns Federal EPA’S “Gold Standard”

GEORGETOWN, KENTUCKY, (March 12, 2008) — Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky Inc. (TMMK) was recently named a member of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) National Environmental Performance Track program, joining more than 500 U.S. facilities in their commitment to consistently exceed environmental regulation requirements.

Performance Track recognizes and drives environmental excellence by encouraging facilities with strong environmental records to go above and beyond their legal requirements. TMMK qualified for the program and was invited to apply because of the company’s past achievements, continuous commitment to environmental compliance, and implementation of a strong Environmental Management System.

“We are certainly pleased to be recognized by the EPA for our environmental performance,” stated Kevin Butt, General Manager of Environmental Engineering at Toyota Engineering & Manufacturing of North America. “Toyota is committed to going above and beyond any regulatory requirements as we move forward in our efforts to achieve environmental sustainability at all of our manufacturing facilities.”

Admission into the Performance Track program is selective and based on a company’s history of environmental excellence. TMMK is one of only seven facilities in Kentucky to achieve Performance Track acceptance, and is one of four Toyota plants in North America to apply for and receive admission into the prestigious program.

The EPA established Performance Track to serve as a “gold standard” for facility based environmental performance. By being a Performance Track member, TMMK is eligible for numerous program benefits including EPA recognition, and administrative and regulatory incentives, which may reduce paperwork, increase flexibility and help facilities focus on environmental improvement.

TMMK is an ISO 14001 Environmental Standards certified facility located on 1,300 acres in Scott County and is Toyota’s largest manufacturing plant in North America. TMMK employs nearly 7,000 team members. It has the capacity to build more than 500,000 Camrys, Solaras and Avalons each year.
