![]() A volunteer from the Catholic Action Council picks up TMMK's left over TMMK's Leftover Holiday Meals go to the Needy GEORGETOWN, KENTUCKY, (December 17, 2010) — More than 750 boxed meals, 250 pieces of pie, 24 pans of turkey along with pans of green beans, mashed potatoes and stuffing that were left over from TMMK's Holiday lunch were donated to the Catholic Action Center, a non-profit organization that provides food, shelter and clothing to Lexington's homeless. The Catholic Action Center was very grateful for the donation and noted that the timing was perfect. The shelter is experiencing a high volume of request due to the winter weather which had drained their food surplus. ![]() On Wednesday, Dec.15, David Raisor, Georgetown area coordinator for Toys for Tots arrived at the 601 lobby to retrieve TMMK's donations. TMMK Team Members Give Back to the Community During Holidays GEORGETOWN, KENTUCKY, (December 16, 2010) — A big thank you to all of the team members who donated to this year's Toys for Tots campaign. 10 boxes of toys were collected from team members from across the plant to benefit some of the 440 children in Scott County who were identified as being in need this Holiday season. TMMK Site Named One Of Top Three Corporate Habitats Of The Year GEORGETOWN, KENTUCKY, (December 13, 2010) —TMMK was recently ranked as one of the top three Corporate Habitats of the Year. The award was given by the Wildlife Habitat Council (WHC) and recognized the plant for its commitment to the environment. Nominees are chosen based on a company’s commitment to changing the habitat including length of project and scope of work. GEORGETOWN, KENTUCKY, (December 1, 2010) — A tattoo, an earring and a Harley Davidson shirt may not be the typical gear of your Sunday morning minister, but Assembly 2 Team Member Mitch Carmack said his style has opened the door for him to witness to many who he may never have met otherwise. All his life, Carmack, an ordained minister, has had a love for motorcycles. But it wasn’t until about 18 months ago, thanks to his wife Stephanie’s suggestion, that he bought one. “I’ve desired to have a motorcycle my whole life,” Carmack said. “Once I started riding, I loved it. GEORGETOWN, KENTUCKY, (November 29, 2010) — Mark Rucker, a specialist in the Facilities Control group at TMMK, says Toyota’s commitment to a safe work place has helped him teach community college classes at night. Years ago Gateway Community College in Northern Kentucky advertised for someone to teach in its Energy Careers program. After applying, the professor in charge asked Rucker to teach a safety course. Although safety was not his background, while working at Toyota he had helped develop the electrical safety systems and knew the importance of safety in the workplace. Willing to learn more himself, Rucker, who has been at TMMK for 18 years, took the part-time job. ![]() Darrell Spencer, Assembly 2 Team Member, has helped start archery programs in several county schools across Kentucky. GEORGETOWN, KENTUCKY, (November 19, 2010) — About five years ago, Assembly 2 second shift Team Member Darrell Spencer took his bow hunting skills to the next level. He began to participate in archery competitions. Spencer, a team member in MA430, says he usually travels somewhere every weekend between January and August. And, he’s had success, placing as high as 11th in the nationals with more than 700 shooters. He’s utilized his skills also to benefit area youth. As a member of the Kentucky Traditional Bowhunters Association out of Harrodsburg, Ky., he’s helped start archery programs in several county schools across Kentucky. GEORGETOWN, KENTUCKY, (November 16, 2010) — A dream that started several years ago came to light in 2007 when a break in production volume gave a Body Weld Production Engineering Assistant Manager just enough time. Meryl Newton, a former track and field athlete, wanted to bring the sport to area youth. Throughout the seasons, area children have several opportunities for soccer, baseball, football and basketball, but there was not a league for track and field outside of school in Scott County and very few in the area. Newton, with the support of Toyota VIP money, has been coaching area youth since 2007. “Cool Breeze Track Club,” with many of the participants being children of TMMK team members, practices for an hour and a half three nights a week. Ergo Cup Competitors Receive Presidential Safety Coins GEORGETOWN, KENTUCKY, (November 15, 2010) — Safety recently presented two groups, Assembly 2's David Morgan, Todd Eggleston, and Tim Turner and Body Operations' Mike Divine, Barry Smiley, Bryan Berryhill, Paul Presley and J.J Griffith with Presidential Safety Coins for their achievements in the 2010 TEMA Ergonomic Cup competition. ![]() QC/QE Assistant Staff Clem Walters teaches computers to seniors at the Ed Davis Community Center. GEORGETOWN, KENTUCKY, (November 10, 2010) — Challenged by the thought of how she could help her community, Quality Control/Quality Engineering Assistant Staff Clem Walters began pounding the pavement looking for ways to make a difference. She found the opportunity in 2006 through Georgetown’s Ed Davis Community, Inc. which hosts a variety of classes including Art, Music Theory, Basic Computer, Electrical and Gardening, as well as a summer basketball league for the children in the community “I had heard they were looking for new members and someone mentioned that they needed a computer instructor,” Walters said. “While I didn’t think of myself in that role, I thought why not?” ![]() Stamping Team Member Shawn Clark, Quality Control Team Leader Dave Jones and Die Manufacturing Team Leader Chris Towery volunteered in Haiti over July shutdown to repair a school damaged during the January 2001 earthquake. GEORGETOWN, KENTUCKY, (November 8, 2010) — "It was a life changing experience," that's how Quality Control Team Leader Dave Jones describes his volunteer experience in Haiti this summer. Over July shutdown, Jones, along with Die Manufacturing Team Leader Chris Towery and Stamping Team Member Shawn Clark, took part in a missionary trip to Haiti organized by Georgetown's Harmony Christian Church. This is the first in a series of Team Member Spotlight features. GEORGETOWN, KENTUCKY, (October 28, 2010) — Facilities Control Specialist David Steedly sees diversity in terms of white and red. That’s because he’s the proud owner of a vineyard that produces more than 5,000 pounds of grapes a year. Eventually Steedly’s harvest becomes red or white wines produced at local wineries. He and his family also take the fruits of their labor and make homemade jams and jellies. “When we started, there were maybe only a dozen vineyards in Kentucky,” Steedly said. “Now there’s at least a hundred that have popped up all over the state.” ![]() James Surprises Color Me Safe Contest Winner At School GEORGETOWN, KENTUCKY, (September 30, 2010) — Veronica Palmer, daughter of Body Weld Team Member Chip Palmer, poses with TMMK President Wil James. Veronica and her classmates at Lexington Christian Academy were treated to cake and lemonade to celebrate her winning entry in the annual Color Me Safe contest, held as part of June’s Safety Month celebration. ![]() Traveling Avalon Class at the Kentucky State Fair GEORGETOWN, KENTUCKY, (September 6, 2010) — Visitors to the TMMK Kentucky State Fair Booth were definitely “Traveling Avalon Class.” That was the theme for this year’s exhibit, which showcased the all new restyled Avalon. More than 80 team members and 16 members of management volunteered to man the booth. It’s TMMK’s 21st year exhibiting at the fair. ![]() Money generated from team member’s recycling of mixed office paper will go to help fund a transportation program which assists schools with paying for field trips to visit TMMK. Team Members Help Students Through Recycling Efforts GEORGETOWN, KENTUCKY, (August 27, 2010) —Next time you toss a pile of papers in your break area recycling bin you just might be helping a local school “go green.” A recent change in the routing of the money generated through the recycling of TMMK’s mixed office paper will go into a Transportation Reimbursement Program, designed to help local schools afford to go on field trips to TMMK’s Environmental Education Center/Nature Trail. Previously the money, nearly $1,500 per quarter, went into the plant’s general fund to cover miscellaneous expenses. Money from Visitor Center gift shop sales also goes towards the transportation fund. ![]() Eleven new members were selected for TMMK’s Diversity Advisory Council. New Diversity Advisory Council Members Appointed GEORGETOWN, KENTUCKY, (August 12, 2010) —TMMK’s Diversity Advisory Council (DAC) has announced the appointment of 11 new members. Exempt team members from across the plant make up the 19-person group, which helps steer diversity activities and plans. This year’s new members were selected from 20 applications. TMMK Wraps Up Successful Safety Month THOUSAND OF TEAM MEMBERS GET INVOLVED GEORGETOWN, KENTUCKY, (August 6, 2010) —TMMK Safety set out to make this year’s National Safety Month celebration one for the record books and judging by the plantwide participation they reached their mark. Everyday during the month of June team members had the opportunity to participate in a safety activity, contest or promotion. Even before stepping foot in the plant, team members were met with colorful safety messages posted on signs all over TMMK’s grounds and parking lots. ![]() Winners of this year’s cardio challenge are Assembly 2’s A Step Above. Plantwide Challenge Helps Team Members Reach a Healthier Lifestyle GEORGETOWN, KENTUCKY, (July 5, 2010) — What could you get done in 2,544 hours? For TMMK team members participating in the Team Up To Go the Distance Challenge...those hours brought them one step closer to a healthier lifestyle. In all, 157 participants formed teams and logged 152,663 minutes worth of cardio exercise over a three-week period. The winners were Assembly 2’s A Step Above, averaging 916 minutes. Second place was last year’s champion, Body Shop Runners with 751 minutes. Taking home third place honors was Assembly 2’ s Elite 8 with 634 average minutes. ![]() Doug Cottrell, Powertrain V6, sands and preps a picnic table for staining Helping Out, Having Fun: All Part of Community Service Day GEORGETOWN, KENTUCKY, (June 30, 2010) — Walls are freshly painted, fences are sanded and stained, horse stalls are clean and grounds are now weed free-all thanks to TMMK team members who participated in the 13th annual Community Service Day held this year on June 23. On that day, TMMK allowed team members to volunteer at select non-profit agencies. This activity is during the normal working day and team members are paid regular wages for the day. Field Day Gives Back To Area Students GEORGETOWN, KENTUCKY, (April 26, 2010) — It’s the 40th anniversary of Earth Day and TMMK celebrated with a variety of activities, one of which was open to Scott County students. One hundred second graders from Garth Elementary visited the Environmental Education Center and Nature Trail to participate in the second annual Environmental Field Day. The students were split into groups and allowed to participate in three activity sessions, lasting 30 minutes each. Sessions covered a host of topics that captured the students’ attention. The children performed water sampling in Cattail Lake, baked smores using solar ovens and shared a laugh while running an environmental-themed relay race. The day concluded with students taking an Earth Day environmental pledge. |
