GEORGETOWN, KENTUCKY, (October 29, 2009) — The Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Bluegrass announced today that Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky Inc. has approved a generous grant to the RMHC of the Bluegrass in the amount of $2,500 to “adopt” one guest room at the Lexington Ronald McDonald House for a twelve month term. Toyota representatives presented a check to RMHC of the Bluegrass on Wednesday, October 28 at 10:00 a.m. at the Ronald McDonald House, located at 1300 Sports Center Drive (behind the UK football Stadium) The “Adopt a Room” program helps underwrite operating costs such as utilities, linens, cleaning supplies and toiletries provided for families who will stay in the room during their child’s medical crisis. “We simply would not exist without the kindness and commitment of community partners like Toyota,” said Executive Director Sarah Warner. “When charities and companies work together to align missions, everyone wins.” 100% of the funding to support the Ronald McDonald House program comes from charitable financial and in-kind contributions from community donors (including donations received from the guest who stay at the House.) The “Adopt a Room” Program provides a valuable opportunity for individuals and companies to show their support for the families who call the House their home during the hospitalization of their child. (The operating cost per night of one of the twenty guest rooms at the Ronald McDonald House is $67.) About Ronald McDonald House The Mission of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Bluegrass is to create and support programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children and to strengthen families by keeping them together in times of medical need. Since opening doors in 1984, the Ronald McDonald House has provided a “ home away from home” for 25,000 families who traveled to Lexington from the Bluegrass and beyond in need of medical care for their children. The House provides guests with comfortable, overnight lodging, home cooked meals, laundry facilities, play spaces and shuttle transportation. Perhaps most importantly, the House offers an environment of comfort and support for families who are experiencing the stress and fear of their child’s illness coupled with the alienation of being far away from home and mounting financial burdens.
