Gary Convis graduated from Michigan State University in June 1964 with a degree in mathematics. Upon graduation, he joined General Motors Buick Motor Division where he worked for two and a half years. In October 1966, Mr. Convis joined Ford Motor Company. Over the next 18 years, he worked in manufacturing, engineering, and quality control. In April of 1984, he joined New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc. as plant general manager responsible for manufacturing operations and personnel. In 1987, he assumed the responsibilities of vice president of manufacturing, becoming a senior vice president in 1994 and executive vice president in 1997. In May of 2000, he joined Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky, Inc. (TMMK) as executive vice president and assumed post as president in April 2001.

In June 2006, he was named to his current position as chairman of TMMK. In June 2003, he was made managing officer at Toyota Motor Corporation.

Recognizing the importance of North America in Toyota's 2010 Global Vision, Mr. Convis' hope in assuming this office is to contribute, with an American perspective, to support the consolidation and continued progress of Toyota's North American operations. In addition, he hopes to help develop people who can practice The Toyota Way in North America and work toward self-reliance by strengthening management systems to support Toyota's globalization.

Mr. Convis was born on September 22, 1942 in Michigan, USA. He has two daughters and three sons. He and his wife, Debbie, reside in Lexington, Kentucky. In his spare time, he enjoys playing golf, boating and riding motorcycles.
