GEORGETOWN, KENTUCKY, (October 1, 2007) —Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky, Inc. (TMMK) saw 200-plus volunteers participate in activities for the 14th Annual National Public Lands Day at Fort Boonesborough state park near Richmond, Kentucky, on September 29, 2007. The group included volunteers from area Boy Scout troops, churches, Junior ROTC cadets, students from area middle schools & Eastern Kentucky University, and a large contingent of TMMK team members and their families.
Named for famous Kentucky pioneer Daniel Boone, Ft. Boonesborough is a working fort complete with cabins, blockhouses and furnishings. It also features battle re-enactments and hosts the Kentucky River Museum.

Almost 100 trees were planted, and another 100 tree seedlings were put into the ground. Trash was removed from the park’s beach, and along the roads leading to the park. Flower beds were cleared of weeds, and new perennial flowers were planted. Several of the Boy Scouts built bird houses that were hung throughout the park. A new outdoor classroom was constructed, and a bridge along one of the trails was repaired.
National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance the public lands Americans enjoy. In 2006,100,000 volunteers built trails and bridges, planted trees and plants, and removed trash and invasive plants.
